Margao locals oppose coffee shop in garden

Margao: Residents of Margao’s ward 10 objected to the construction of a coffee shop by the Margao Municipal Council (MMC) within the garden opposite the civil and criminal court at the town’s old market. They said it was illegal as it had no approval from the statutory authorities.

In a letter to MMC’s chief officer, they said the land doesn’t belong to the council and that, according to the ODP in force, it is designated as a conservation zone. “As such, any construction in a conservation zone requires approval from the TCP department’s conservation committee, which the MMC chief officer appears to have not obtained,” the letter stated.
