Mapusa cops arrest Guirim resident for murder within 48 hours
PANAJI: Mapusa police have arrested Karan Shinde, a 19-year-old resident from Guirim for the murder of Nabin B K from Nepal who was found dead at Morod, Mapusa on Saturday with injuries on his neck.
The arrest was effected within 48 hours of the crime with police scanning CCTV footage and using the dog squad.
Police had registered a case of murder against an unknown person after a stab injury was found on Nabin’s neck. He was working as a security guard and was staying near Parra.
North Goa superintendent of police (SP) Nidhin Valsan said that the Mapusa police obtained CCTV footage from opposite the crime scene where the deceased was seen with one person around 3am on Saturday.
“From the photographs obtained from the CCTV footage Mapusa police launched a massive manhunt and after 48 hours of the crime, the police finally arrested Shinde. The police have successfully recovered the clothes that the accused person wore during the crime which had blood stains and which match the footage from the CCTV camera,” Valsan said.
He added that during custodial interrogation the accused said that when he met the deceased they decided to drink alcohol and went to a field where a quarrel started between the two. The accused then stabbed the deceased with a broken glass bottle.
The case was supervised by PI Paresh Naik and the team from Mapusa police station, Valsan said.
