Man arrested for online defamation

Panaji: The cyber crime police on Sunday arrested a person in connection with alleged violation of privacy and online defamation.

SP cyber crime Rahul Gupta said that the arrest was made following a complaint filed by a resident of Bambolim. “The accused, 23-year-old Talaigao resident Sadhim Mohammad, known online by usernames such as “noXXXX0”, “iceXXXaa.i”, “@theXXXXXXrer”, “@XXX0”, “@sXXXok”, and “@XXjuu”, is the ex-boyfriend of the complainant. During their relationship, he allegedly obtained private photographs of the complainant. After the relationship ended, he reportedly created and used fake Instagram and Snapchat accounts to share those private images with her friends,” Gupta said.

“This act constitutes a serious violation of her privacy and dignity, involving the transmission of sexually explicit material via electronic means on the social media platform Instagram,” Gupta said.

Following a detailed investigation and technical analysis, the suspect was identified. A police team conducted searches in Margao and Panaji. “Sadhim was apprehended and brought to the police station. As the accused was found to be non-cooperative during interrogation, he was formally placed under arrest and was produced before the JMFC. He was granted two days police custody,” Gupta said.
