Ponda: Tiswadi taluka, including the state capital, received low pressure to their water taps on Friday as the Opa Water Works had a technical snag due to a sudden power outage early Friday morning. However, this outage had no relation with Thursday’s transformer blast at Curti, Ponda.
With the power failure, a mechanical joint of a 750mm mild steel rising main pipeline that takes water from the river to the 40 MLD treatment plant developed a crack. But, the Opa plant continued to supply water to Tiswadi, as the other 27 MLD plant was working.
The staff immediately undertook the repair by stopping the pumping of water to the plant, said Sunil Shet, assistant engineer at the Opa plant.
Rejecting any relation of Friday’s power outage with Thursday’s transformer blast, Vatan Kunkolienkar, assistant engineer at the Curti power substation, said that Friday’s outage was due to tripping of the power line.
