The Western bypass between Navelim and Benaulim, opened 20 months ago, has become a spot for illegal waste dumping. This has become a growing concern among local residents.

Residents of both villages report frequent illegal dumping, with waste scattered widely along the bypass. Despite occasional success in catching perpetrators, weak enforcement has allowed the practice to persist.

“The situation is already problematic on the existing stretch,” said a resident. “With the new 2.7 km Benaulim-Mungul-Seraulim stretch now open, we fear it will face similar issues unless a proper waste management system and enforcement are put in place.”

A lack of a formal garbage collection and disposal system, combined with insufficient monitoring, has allowed illegal dumping to thrive, villagers said. Local panchayats are yet to take effective action, leaving residents worried about the long-term environmental impact.
