was held at the Calangute church hall on Sunday. Around 200 residents attended the meeting organised by the social action group of Calangute parish, Centre for Responsible Tourism and Calangute constituency forum.


Premanand Divkar of Calangute forum, pointing out the differences between the draft ODP and the ODP that was notified recently, described it as an “outstanding destruction plan”.

He said large areas located on the hills in Baga and Calangute have been shown as settlement zones, which had not been marked in the draft ODP.

Detailing the sequence of events since the draft ODP was made public in 2016, he said a gram sabha of the Calangute panchayat had even adopted a resolution against the ODP and the panchayat had even approached the high court of Bombay at Goa, but the new panchayat body has withdrawn the court case.

Viriato Fernandes of Goencho Awaz, who was also present, said the type of development being pushed by the state government and politicians is only destroying Goa.
