Light rainfall likely today & tomorrow
Panaji: The India meteorological department (IMD), Panaji, has forecast light to moderate rain at a few places over Goa on Tuesday and Wednesday due to an upper air cyclonic circulation over the north-east Arabian Sea and other systems.
There is a possibility of thunderstorms accompanied by winds gusting to 30-40kmph in isolated places, a IMD bulletin stated.
Yet another upper cyclonic circulation spans over parts of Marathwada while a north-south trough runs from south-east Madhya Pradesh to south interior Karnataka across Marathwada, Telangana and north interior Karnataka in lower tropospheric levels.
IMD, Delhi, has forecast rainfall in many parts of the country and isolated to scattered rainfall on the western coast of India.
However, the weather is most likely to be dry from Thursday to Sunday.
Pre-monsoon showers have been witnessed in Goa this summer since March 26 when the highest 24-hour average rainfall of 7.1mm was recorded.
The state had received light rainfall subsequently and also sporadically during April. However, there had been no pre-monsoon showers since April 10 and 11 when 1mm and 0.1mm rainfall were recorded.
The non-seasonal total on Monday stands at 13.5mm as against the normal value of 11.5mm. The surplus at this stage is 17.2% after it had soared to 87%, at one stage.
The heat continues to be sultry, as IMD recorded a maximum temperature of 36.1 degrees C on Sunday, just 2.2 degrees above normal and 35 degrees C on Monday. The nights were also warm, as the minimum temperature recorded on Monday was 27.4 degrees, 1.1 degrees above normal.
