Light rain brings relief, gusty winds hit Sattari
Panaji/Valpoi: Light rainfall was recorded at isolated places across Goa, including Sattari, on Thursday, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD). The Sattari taluka was also struck by gusty winds late Wednesday night, which damaged horticulture crops particularly in the villages of Surungule and Shirsode. The roofs of several houses were blown off due to the high velocity of winds too. No casualties were reported.
The taluka even reported disruptions in power supply, with some areas being affected for a prolonged period. Internal roads were blocked by uprooted trees, which fire and emergency services personnel managed to clear in the first half of Thursday.
Despite the showers, however, there was no significant drop in temperatures, with conditions continuing to remain above normal.
According to Thursday’s observations, Panaji reported a maximum temperature of 35.4°C, which is 2.8°C above normal, and a minimum of 25°C, which is 1.1°C above normal. In Mormugao, the maximum temperature stood at 33.6°C (1.3°C above normal), while the minimum was 25.2°C (0.6°C above normal).
Humidity levels were recorded at 61% in Panaji and 83% in Mormugao.
The IMD has forecast partly cloudy skies with haze during the mornings over the next 48 hours. Maximum and minimum temperatures are expected to hover around 33°C and 24°C respectively over the next 24 hours. The department has indicated that dry and mainly sunny weather conditions are likely to prevail across Goa until March 31, suggesting that the brief rainfall may offer only temporary relief from the prevailing heat.
