Lifesavers aid six over weekend on state’s beaches
Panaji: Drishti Marine lifesavers reported multiple rescues across Goa’s beaches over the weekend, assisting six persons, reuniting a missing child with his family, and providing aid to an injured kayaker.
Four fishermen were rescued at Mandrem after their boat was caught in rough waves. Lifesavers on jetskis from Mandrem and Arambol responded swiftly, bringing all four safely ashore.
At Colva, a 36-year-old fisherman from Chhattisgarh was rescued by Sahil Tikkam after he got exhausted while swimming back to shore from his anchored boat.
At Miramar, lifesavers pulled a man under the influence of alcohol from rough waters. Initially unresponsive, he was stabilised and shifted to hospital where his condition is reported as stable.
A three-year-old boy from Jabalpur, Madhya Pradesh, reported missing by his father at Baga, was traced by lifesaver Sundar Singh and reunited with his family.
Lifesavers at Arambol treated a 26-year-old Bengaluru resident who dislocated his hand while kayaking. He was handed over to 108 emergency services and is stable.
Meanwhile, Drishti Marine announced that more than 450 lifesavers underwent their annual refresher training in Goa. The two-month programme includes updates on rescue techniques, use of new equipment, and first response protocols. “The training ensures lifesavers remain up to date with professional skills,” said Col Austin Collaco, GM, operations and training, Drishti Marine.
