Leopard attacks pet dog in Keri

Keri: A pet dog was attacked by a leopard and died after suffering grievous injuries near Anjunem dam in Keri, Sattari.

The canine was tied outside a house and was attacked by the leopard during the night. Though family members were able to drive away the leopard and rescued the dog, it died by morning.

Manjunath Gaunder told TOI, “Our house is situated near Anjunem dam. At midnight when we heard loud barking, we came outside and rescued our dog from the leopard’s grip, but it was seriously injured.”

As this settlement lies in the vicinity of the Mhadei wildlife sanctuary, it is frequented by tigers, leopards and other wild animals.

Shyamasundar Gawas, range forest officer of Keri, said, “I will ask my staff to visit the area and inform the locals about the necessary precautions that must be taken and we will also enhance patrolling in the area.”
