Konkani Bhasha Mandal elects its first woman president

was elected, unopposed, as the

president

of Konkani Bhasha Mandal, Goa, thereby becoming the first

woman

to head the organization since its establishment in September 1962. Pobre Fernandes was elected vice-president while Ulhas Gaonkar, the secretary, at the election held on Sunday to constitute the new executive committee of the mandal. Purushottam Verlekar and Sneha Sabnis were elected joint secretaries.

Singbal succeeds Chetan Acharya who led the Konkani’s premier organisation for three terms since 2012.

Singbal, in a press statement, said that her election to the top post was a testimony to the faith reposed in the youth leaders by the Konkani Bhasha Mandal.
