Kashinath-MLA spat: Former govt staff back ‘cable-cutter’

Panaji: Former Govt Employees Association president John Nazareth came out in support of the electricity department’s executive engineer Kashinath Shetye, who had gone on a cable-cutting spree in the state. Nazareth also backed Shetye after the latter got into a public spat with Mormugao MLA Sankalp Amonkar.

Nazareth said a govt servant assigned duties should not be obstructed. He said former and current govt employees stand with Shetye. He said that Shetye went to Vasco to inspect the department’s property where the compound wall was broken in several places.

Describing Amonkar as a public servant, Nazareth said that it is an MLA’s duty to protect govt property. “As an MLA, he prevented a govt employee from discharging his duty,” Nazareth said. “He cannot be obstructed, and the MLA has committed a grave offence by blocking a govt employee.”

Sincere govt employees cannot be treated like this, he added.
