Karnataka teen held for kidnapping, raping minor girl
Ponda: A 19-year-old native hailing from Kalkeri village in Karnataka’s Koppal district was arrested by the Ponda police on Saturday for kidnapping and raping a 16-year-old female student.
After the girl went missing, her father lodged a police complaint. The Ponda police registered an FIR of kidnapping on Dec 5.
The girl was traced by the Kanahosahalli police in Karnataka and sent to child protection care. She was brought to Goa on Dec 7 and while her statement was being recorded before an NGO and a magistrate, she said the accused had had a physical relationship with her. Charges of rape were subsequently added.
The accused went absconding but was later traced in Sindagi village where he had started working. He was brought to Ponda on Saturday evening. Formalities pertaining to his arrest were in process till late in the evening.
