Kasim was arrested on Feb 4, on a complaint by Kashinath Naik from Pune, after allegedly stealing gold jewellery from a room in Varca resort occupied by Kashinath Naik’s son and daughter-in-law.

Resort CCTV footage led police to a suspect in a prior case. They swiftly traced and arrested the suspect, identified as Kasim, who was residing at Cavelossim.

An initial search led to the recovery of gold ornaments worth Rs 3.6 lakh matching Naik’s stolen items, police said.

During interrogation, Kasim allegedly confessed to another theft in Oct last year. Police recovered Rs 10 lakh worth of gold in their original form from S M Pradeep at Mangalore. Police are investigating Kasim’s links to similar crimes.
