Kadamba Transport Corporation plans major bus fleet overhaul with electric buses by 2028

Porvorim: The Kadamba Transport Corporation Ltd (KTC) outlined its plan to replace a portion of its bus fleet in the coming years, at the ongoing assembly session, on Tuesday.
A response to a legislative assembly question (LAQ) stated that KTC’s bus fleet replacement schedule spans from 2025 to 2028, with a total of 50 buses to be replaced this year alone. The plan includes the replacement of 19 buses in Dec 2026, 19 in Dec 2027, and 215 in Dec 2028. The move comes in the wake of KTC’s efforts to improve transportation services by adding electric buses to its fleet.
The LAQ also provided a detailed breakdown of KTC’s financial performance over the past five years (see infographic). While KTC faced financial difficulties in the earlier years, it reported a modest profit in FY 2022-23, signalling a mild recovery. This was, however, followed by a dip in the following financial year.
KTC presented an accident report covering the period from 2020 to Jan 2025. The report included several incidents involving the corporation’s buses, with compensation claims varying across the years. Notable claim dates include Oct 28, 2022, with a claim amounting to Rs 52.4 lakh, and Jan 13, 2025, with a claim of Rs 1.3 lakh.
