Investigation deepens in Margao labour trafficking case
Margao: Police investigations revealed new details in the labour trafficking case involving Shabrish Manjrekar, the 32-year-old Borda resident arrested on Thursday.
Police sources said Manjrekar operated an unlicensed placement agency called SM Home Care Services in Verna. Records show the business’s trade licence expired in 2020, though Manjrekar continued operations.
The statement of the victim woman, a resident of Karnataka, was recorded on Friday before the third additional court in Margao as part of the investigation, police said.
Police investigations also revealed that Manjrekar employed a manager since May 2024. A notice was issued to her to appear for questioning under Sec 35(3) of the BNSS, police said.
During a search of Manjrekar’s Verna office, police seized expired business documentation and collected Aadhaar details of several domestic workers.
The court remanded Manjrekar in police custody until March 24.
