Inter-state gambling racket busted

Panaji: Goa police crime branch raided an illegal gambling den at Honda on Friday night and busted an inter-state racket. The crime branch arrested seven people from Goa and Maharashtra and seized 10,500 during the raid.
Police had received information about the gambling operations taking place in a forest near Honda which led to an investigation and laying of the trap.
On reaching the hut which served as the gambling den, the police team found the seven accused gambling and immediately arrested them. The accused arrested are Ramesh Gaonkar, Pandurang Gaonkar, Vishant Parab and Narayan Gaonkar of Valpoi and Mahadev Halvankar, Vithal Wrak and Gangaram Shelkar of Maharashtra. Police said the accused have been arrested under Section 3 and 4 of the Goa Public Gambling Act. The accused were later released on bail.
