PANAJI: The injuries to marine turtles continued during the monsoon season, as in the past, and this year three cases, including one fatality have been reported by the forest department.
Though fishing by mechanized boats has been banned and the incidence may have come down, three marine turtles were trapped in smaller nets in less than three weeks after the onset of the monsoon.

In one case, a marine turtle with severe injuries was taken by animal rescue centre at Campal, Panaji to a veterinary care centre. But after a few days, it succumbed to the injuries, as the carapace was badly cracked.
In South Goa, two turtles were trapped in fishing nets in Cavelossim and Agonda. They were treated by a veterinary doctor at Cotigao wildlife sanctuary and released back in the sea, forest department sources said.
More cases had been reported last year. In one instance, two juvenile marine turtles rescued at Mandrem beach on June 18, 2012 were released in the deep sea by the Indian Navy after about a week.
