Panaji: As part of the centenary celebrations of Mario Miranda, the department of posts unveiled a special philatelic tribute, including a commemorative cancellation and four-picture postcards dedicated to Miranda. Senior superintendent of post offices (SSPO), Goa Division, Anurag Nikhare described the moment as “a matter of great pride and privilege,” emphasising that Miranda’s “name is synonymous with creativity, humour and a deep, affectionate portrayal of Goa’s life.”
He said philately was a powerful medium to preserve history, celebrate culture and honour individuals who have made an impact on society.
“Department of posts’ mandate is not just limited to mails, parcels and facilitation of banking and financial services, but we also promote, preserve and commemorate our cultural heritage, art and personalities. On this special occasion, department of posts is honoured to release the special cancellation and four-picture postcards dedicated to the birth centenary,” he said.
A distinguished gathering of diplomats, cultural figures, artists and admirers came together over the weekend to celebrate Miranda’s birth centenary. Governor Pusapati Ashok Gajapathi Raju visited the exhibition on the centenary celebrations of the artist at the art gallery of the Kala Academy, Panaji.
