In civilian area, Navy can’t curb access to shrines: Vasco MLA
Vasco: Krishna Salkar, the Vasco MLA, on Thursday said that naval interference in civilian areas ‘will not be tolerable’.He was speaking to the media after having a discussion with top Navy officers on the long-standing dispute over an access path that leads to shrines at Mangor-Hill at Vasco. Ram Mandir, Kali Mandir, and Ayyappa temple are among the shrines in the area. The naval authorities have imposed restrictions on the use of the access path owing to security concerns.“I will fight for the rights of the people, especially civilians who have been worshipping at these shrines for several years,” Salkar said. “I will ensure that the issue of access is resolved permanently. As this is a civilian area, security issues don’t come into play.”He added, “BJP govts in the state and at the Centre are committed to ensuring the welfare of people. The access to religious shrines is civilians’ right.”
