IMD tells revellers to stay hydrated, avoid prolonged sun exposure this Holi
Panaji: As Goa celebrates Holi on Friday, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for heat, extending the warning to March 14. Residents and festival-goers are advised to take extra precautions when stepping outdoors, as hot and humid conditions are expected to persist throughout the state.
The IMD’s forecast indicates that temperatures are likely to soar between 35°C and 37°C, with humid conditions in isolated pockets of both North and South Goa on Friday. As people prepare to celebrate Holi, it is essential to stay hydrated, wear appropriate clothing, and avoid prolonged exposure to the sun, particularly during the peak hours of the day. The IMD has urged everyone to stay safe and take necessary precautions to avoid heat-related illnesses during the festive celebrations.">
“People going for rallies or gatherings are advised to take necessary precautions to avoid prolonged exposure in high humidity and temperature areas,” the IMD advisory reads. “Use ORS, homemade drinks like lassi, torani (rice water), sugarcane juice, lemon water, buttermilk, etc, to rehydrate the body. Heat cramps and heat rash are likely during peak hours of the day between 11am to 3pm,” the advisory reads.
The ongoing hot and humid weather is expected to continue as the IMD has forecast dry weather across North and South Goa districts until March 19, with maximum temperatures likely to range between 34°C and 36°C over the next seven days.
On Thursday, Panaji recorded a maximum temperature of 35.4°C, while Mormugao reached 36.2°C. Both areas also recorded a minimum temperature of 24.6°C.
