IMD extends flash flood alert to today

Panaji: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) extended its flash flood alert for Goa to June 18, warning of a “moderate to high flash flood risk” in the state. The IMD warned that “surface runoff or inundation may occur at some fully saturated soils and low-lying areas over the area of concern.”
The IMD has forecast moderate rainfall across the Goa until June 23, alongside warnings of squally weather and high sea conditions. According to the IMD, squally weather with wind speeds of 45–55kmph, gusting up to 65kmph, is likely to prevail along and off the Konkan–Goa coast until June 20.
In light of these rough sea conditions, fishermen are advised not to venture into the sea during the forecast period. Additionally, the Indian National Centre for Ocean Information Services also issued a high wave warning for Goa’s coastline, predicting wave heights between 4.1 to 4.7 metres.
For North Goa, high waves are expected along the Chapora to Panaji stretch on June 18 and for South Goa, along the Vasco to Kolamb strech.
