PANAJI:
Siddharth Singh, son of Goa's inspector general of police (IGP) K D Singh, may be arrested for his alleged involvement in a road accident while driving his father's official vehicle.
"The case is under investigation. If required, we will be arresting him. A chargesheet will also be filed in the case," director general of police Bhim Sain Bassi told the media at the police headquarters on Friday.
Siddharth, 18, was returning from a popular Vasco nightclub driving his father's official vehicle, when the car crashed into an electric pole in the early hours of December 5, last year.
Power minister Aleixo Sequeira's son Antonio was also present in the car at the time of the accident.
"As far as the vehicle is concerned, it is being repaired," Bassi said.
However, when asked who would be paying for the repairs, which are estimated at Rs 4 lakh, the DGP said, "We will decide on it later."
Incidentally, police sources said there were serious lapses in the investigations, which includes not administering the IGP's son to an alcohol test.
After initially stating that IGP Singh would be questioned as part of a departmental enquiry into the accident, police spokesperson SP AV Deshpande later said there was no question of the IGP being probed.
