I-League: Dempo strengthened with signing of Ivory Coast midfielder Brossou

Panaji: Dempo SC are making considerable progress in the January transfer window to get their squad back in shape for the remainder of the I-League.
The former champions have acquired the services of Ivory Coast midfielder Didier Brossou. The 35-year-old joins from Bangladesh outfit Bashundhara Kings.
“Didier Brossou brings a wealth of experience having previously plied his trade for top Bangladesh side Bashundhara Kings,” Dempo CEO Pradhyum Reddy told TOI on Friday.
Former Real Kashmir forward Lukman Adefemi from Nigeria has also been registered. The new signings are likely to be in action when Dempo travel to take on Kashmir on Saturday.
The league allows a team to register six foreigners, with four of them in the starting 11. However, Dempo started their season with only three foreigners. Everything was going well, they even reached the second spot in the standings, before they slipped down the table after a string of disappointing results.
Dempo had 10 points from their first six away games. They lost their first home game against Inter Kashi after conceding a late goal. Moreover, Argentine medio Damian Perez pulled his hamstring and Serbian Matija Babovic moved to Kashi after the game.
Dempo were left with only Syrian centre-back Shaher Shaheen. Dempo lost their next game against Gokulam Kerala FC, conceding another later winner, but did well to snatch a point in their last game against Rajasthan United FC (1-1).
“Our young Indian midfielders have done exceptionally well in their debut season and will benefit from having the experience of our new foreign addition,” said Pradhyum.
Dempo are currently in the eighth spot with 11 points after nine games. A win on Saturday will take them back in the top five.
Dempo are also in talks with two more foreigners, including Spaniard Juan Mera, who started this season with Churchill Brothers FC but parted ways earlier this month due to lack of playing opportunities.
