PANAJI: A 29-year-old unemployed man killed his wife by stabbing her several times with a knife as he was upset that she refused to stay with his mother at their ancestral house in his home town Pernem.
The accused, Ganpat Shetye, later surrendered to the Pernem police and confessed. "A drunk Shetye told the police that he was upset with his wife for not agreeing to shift to his ancestral house in Virnoda in Pernem where his mother and brother resided and therefore stabbed her with a knife several times," said police sources.
The police have registered a murder case and arrested Shetye.
His 24-year-old wife Sneha was found profusely bleeding on the road near their residence at Moira on Tuesday evening. She was admitted to Asilo hospital with multiple injuries to the neck, chest and stomach, by the Mapusa police, who got a call at about 7.30pm that a woman was lying bleeding by the roadside. She succumbed to her injuries at the hospital.
Police said that the couple were married for the last five years and had a four-year-old son and seven-month-old daughter. "There were frequent fights between the couple as the husband wanted to shift to his hometown and stay with his mother, but the wife, who was employed, wouldn't agree. This upset Shetye and he used to have frequent quarrels with his wife," said police sources.
