Hologram stickers on bottles to track liquor

Porvorim: With the state being rocked by multiple instances of liquor being smuggled across the state’s borders, chief minister Pramod Sawant announced that hologram stickers will be affixed to bottles and boxes to certify the authenticity of liquor sold in the state.

The hologram will also enable the excise department to track the liquor movement from the distillery to the customer.

He also moved to ease the compliance burden on the liquor industry. “To ensure ease of doing business and to further reduce the compliance burden, I plan to reduce the various excise duties by rationalising the various slabs to reduce them to at most five slabs”

Sawant allocated Rs 30.4 crore for the excise department in his budget.
