HC seeks compliance report on Sunburn

Panaji: The high court on Tuesday asked state govt to file a compliance report to check whether the organisers of the Sunburn electronic dance music festival observed all the HC directions and complied with govt guidelines.

Advocate Saloni Prabhudessai, representing the petitioner Bharat Bagkar, told the HC that one person who attended the festival died due to a drug overdose and five FIRs for drug use were registered.

The HC last month permitted the Sunburn Festival at Dhargalim but directed authorities to ensure prompt action if organisers breached any conditions. The HC made it clear that the festival should be held only upon obtaining all necessary permissions and upon scrupulously following the conditions laid down by the provisions of law and as observed by the court.

“The statements made in the affidavits should be strictly complied with, and the authorities should ensure prompt action in the event of a breach,” the HC had said. It stated that it would hear the petition again after the EDM to check if any conditions were breached.
