GU signs MoU to promote translations

Panaji: The Goa University recently signed an MoU with a Pune-based company specialising in translation-related services to train faculty members and students at the institution on various aspects of the translation industry.

The MoU was signed by Goa University registrar Prof V S Nadkarni, and CEO and founder of Rikaian Technology Pvt Ltd (RTPL), Anandsagar Shiralkar on December 14.

“Under the scope of the MoU, RTPL shall offer translation services for documents, videos, and other similar content for language pairs available on the CAT tool, RIAN, developed indigenously by the company,” said Nadkarni.

He said this is expected to open up new avenues for Goa University to team up in terms of language and technological collaboration.

At present, the Union ministry of education is laying stress on translation in regional languages.

An initiative of the ministry is dedicated to translating technical terms of various academic subjects into modern Indian languages listed under the 8th Schedule of the Constitution.
