Green & orange, the new colour for fair price shops
Panaji: To make it easier for people, especially migrants, to identify fair price shops (FPS), govt will be painting such shops in the state with a consistent green and orange colour scheme. This is part of a broader effort to modernise and improve these essential stores.
The painting of the FPS in Tiswadi and Quepem has already begun, and will soon be extended to other areas, said a senior official at the civil supplies and consumer affairs department.
The project is currently implemented by govt through the public works department (PWD).
“Through this initiative, we aim to bring in uniformity. Beneficiaries will be able to identify and locate the FPS. This is basically for migrant beneficiaries under the integrated management of public distribution system (IMPDS) scheme. Under this scheme, ration card holders are allowed to pick up their food grains from any FPS in the country using their Aadhaar or biometric authentication,” the official said.
The official also said that the department will soon introduce a ‘compensation to FPS dealers’ scheme, which aims to improve the financial stability of FPSs. “This scheme is set to be implemented soon to strengthen the financial system of FPS dealers,” he said.
