GPSC gets new chairperson

Panaji: State govt has appointed Udaysinh Shrikant Raorane as chairperson of the Goa Public Service Commission (GPSC). He had been appointed as a member of the commission in 2023.
Raorane served as deputy registrar at the Maharashtra University of Health Services, Nashik. He completed his BAMS (ayurveda) degree and MD (kayachikitsa) from Pune University.
The GPSC comprises a chairperson and other members that may be appointed from time to time. It was earlier headed by Jose Manuel Noronha, with Raorane and Sukhaji Gajanan Naik as members.
Article 316 of the Constitution of India inter alia provides that the chairperson and other members of a commission shall be appointed by the governor of the state. A member of the commission shall hold office for six years from the date on which he enters office, or until he attains the age of 62 years, whichever is earlier.
