Under the new amendments, major surgeries requiring general anaesthesia are set at Rs 1000, excluding sterilisation or neutering. However, surgeries remain free for stray dogs and cats at hospitals or dispensaries.

Post-operative care is crucial for animal health after surgery. For non-sterilisation/neutering surgeries, post-operative care will be charged at Rs 200 per session. However, animals undergoing sterilisation will get free care for up to five days, supporting govt efforts to control stray populations.

This revision in service charges aims to address the operational costs while ensuring public welfare and affordable treatments for stray animals.

“The charges, previously set through earlier notifications, are now updated to ensure quality veterinary services remain accessible to the public. This will ensure that veterinary services remain affordable for low-income groups and stray animals, ” an official said.
