Gold, cash stolen from Davorlim flat

Unidentified burglars broke into a flat belonging to Virendra Kote, located at Richa apartments at Davorlim on Tuesday, and decamped with cash and gold ornaments, all worth Rs 5 lakh.
MARGAO: Unidentified burglars broke into a flat belonging to Virendra Kote, located at Richa apartments at Davorlim on Tuesday, and decamped with cash and gold ornaments, all worth Rs 5 lakh.Police sources said that the theft occurred between 11am and 11pm when all the occupants of the house were away.Kote owns a footwear shop at the Gandhi market, Margao.When the Kote family returned home on Tuesday night, they were shocked to find the main door of their flat broken open and the cupboard ransacked. Kote, in his complaint to the police, has claimed that gold ornaments and jewellery, besides cash of Rs 2 lakh was stolen. The total worth of stolen items was 5 lakh."My wife was assisting me at our shop and our daughter was also there with us, while my son had gone to his friend's place. We returned home only after closing our shop for the day. When we reached home at around 11pm, we realized that our house was burgled," Kote told TOI.The Kotes had brought their jewellery from their bank locker as they had to attend a wedding of their relatives. "As I have to purchase my merchandise on a daily basis, this being the season, I had preferred to keep the cash at home, instead of depositing in the bank.
I lost all of it," Kote said.Police pressed the sniffer dog squad into service, but no clues could be obtained, sources said. Fingerprint experts picked some impressions at the site. Maina Curtorim police have booked an offence against unknown accused under Sections 454, 457 and 380 of the IPC. PSI Pradeep Dalvi is investigating the case under the supervision of PI Sudesh Naik.
