Goans in North London to celebrate 42nd feast of SFX

Panaji: A unique blend of faith, art, and history is set to captivate visitors to Goa during the Exposition of the relics of St Francis Xavier. The ‘Footprints of Hope’ art exhibition, showcasing the works of 62 Goan artists of various faiths, will be held at the historic Convent of St John of God in Old Goa.

Commissioned specifically for this Exposition, most of the artworks depict St Francis Xavier in a Goan context. The exhibition features a diverse range of mediums, including paintings, sculptures, and woodwork. The artists, hailing from Goa, the Gulf, Europe, and other regions, have creatively interpreted the Saint's life and mission, employing symbols and motifs for contemporary audiences.

The ‘Footprints of Hope’ exhibition will be unveiled on Nov 17 and will run parallel to the Exposition. It will be open to the public from 10am to 5pm at the Convent of St John of God in Old Goa.

Some works depict the Saint depicted holding a Crucifix, symbolising his commitment to spreading the Gospel. Other artworks portray him with a flaming heart and lily, representing his profound love for God and dedication to purity.

The recently restored Convent of St John of God, a blend of 17th-century architecture and contemporary works will serve as the backdrop for this exhibition. It is expected to attract pilgrims, tourists, and art enthusiasts by offering a reflective space during the Exposition.

“This exhibition could inspire viewers to fortify respect for the religious and cultural diversity that marks Indian civilisation,” said Curator, Fr Delio Mendonca.

As Goa welcomes visitors from around the world, the exhibition will highlight a legacy that remains relevant today—one that calls for mutual respect, environmental care, and a collective effort to uplift one another.

By showcasing Goa’s diverse artistic talent, the exhibition echoes values championed by St Francis Xavier – compassion, unity, and service.
