Goan student scores 98.33% at Class X ICSE

PANAJI: Pratheek Rebello topped the batch with 98.33% for the Class X exam of the Indian Certificate of Secondary Education (ICSE).
“The key was revising. I would revise what was done in class for the day and then again once the lesson was complete,” said Rebello, a student of Sharada Mandir, Miramar.
Out of the 150 Sharada Mandir students that appeared for the exam, 119 got distinctions and 31 secured first class.

Out of these, 63 students secured 90% and above.
Seventy-five students from Manovikas English Medium School, Margao, also answered the ICSE exams—51 of which got distinction, 19 got first class and five got second class—15 students secured above 90%.

Manovikas’ Class X topper with 96% Amruta Sable said, “I was never pressurized to outdo in studies at home or in school. My parents, teachers and friends were always very cooperative. I had an aim to secure 90% but receiving 96% has come as a pleasant surprise to me.”
Sharing her thoughts on their performance, principal, Manovikas English Medium School, Brenda D’Cruz, said, “Our students have performed exceptionally well and have done us proud. It is a momentous occasion for all of us.”

Rebello, son of doctors Oscar and Marissa, got 100 marks in mathematics, history, civics and geography and 99 in Hindi. He has taken up science at Mustifund Aryaan Higher Secondary School, Panaji, and is inclined towards engineering.
Thrilled at his feat, his mother Marissa, a doctor at GMC, said, “Pratheek’s hard work has paid off. He's always been a good student who’s been topping since Class V. He would study regularly, but with frequent breaks.”
Mater Dei Institution, Saligao, received a result of 92%. Of the 12 students that appeared, 11 passed. Five students got a distinction, five got a first class, and one got a second class. Fenelina D'Souza topped the school with 85%, while Sania Sayed secured second place with 82%, and Shivani Hubli came in third place with 79%.
Manovikas students shine
Vividh Deora who got 92% in commerce is from Sharada Mandir’s first batch of 21 students that successfully answered the ISC examinations in March 2015. Naitik Jain came second with 91.8% and Darren Dias with 90.8% came third.
In the humanities stream, Daniel Philip with 91.8% came first, Tamsin Noronha with 91.6% came second and Nikita Tavares with 90.4% came third. Seventeen students out of 21 got a distinction, three received first class and one received second class. Seven students secured 90% and above.
Out of the 51 students from Manovikas English Medium School, Margao, that appeared, 27 students received a distinction, 23 received a first class while one got second class. Two students in total secured 90% and above. While Tanmaye Heblekar is the highest scorer in science with 94%, Ivina Azavedo is leading in the school in humanities with 81%.
