Goa to host Asian Acrobatic Gymnastics from today
Panaji: Goa is turning into an importing sporting destination.
There’s the Super Cup football happening at Bambolim and Fatorda, the chess World Cup starts in Arpora on Saturday, and the Peddem Sports Complex in Mapusa will now host the 14th edition of the Acrobatic Gymnastics Asian Championships 2025, from Oct 31 to Nov 2.
The international sporting event will bring together the finest acrobatic gymnasts from across Asia.
“This marks a historic milestone as the championships will be hosted in India for the first time. It’s a proud moment for the nation and a major boost to India’s growing prominence on the international gymnastics stage,” the Gymnastics Federation of India (GFI) said in a statement on Thursday. “The championship aims to showcase the best of acrobatic gymnastics through three days of intense competition. It promises to be a spectacular celebration of strength, artistry, and teamwork, reinforcing India’s growing reputation as a hub for international sporting excellence.”
The championship is organised by GFI in collaboration with the Directorate of Sports & Youth Affairs (DSYA) and the Sports Authority of Goa (SAG). The championship will be inaugurated by chief minister Pramod Sawant on Friday.
“Hosting the championships is a proud moment for India. This championship underlines our commitment to nurturing gymnastics talent and creating more opportunities for our athletes to perform on the global stage,” said GFI president Sudhir Mital.
GFI vice president C. Prabhakar said the federation was confident that the event will inspire young gymnasts.
“We are delighted to see India and Goa host this prestigious event, which will not only inspire young gymnasts but also strengthen the foundation of acrobatics across Asia,” said Asian Gymnastics Union (AGU) technical president Aigul Dukenbayeva.
