Goa: Porvorim MLA Rohan Khaunte held for assaulting BJP leader, released

Goa Police on Thursday arrested and subsequently released on bail former revenue minister and Porvorim MLA Rohan Khaunte for alleged wrongfully restraining and assaulting BJP spokesperson Premanand Mahambre after he raised certain issues pertaining to Kaunte’s assets and business.

PANAJI: Goa Police on Thursday arrested and subsequently released on bail former revenue minister and Porvorim MLA Rohan Khaunte for alleged wrongfully restraining and assaulting BJP spokesperson Premanand Mahambre after he raised certain issues pertaining to Kaunte’s assets and business.
Acting on the complaint of Mahambrey, Porvorim police on Wednesday booked Khaunte under section 341 (wrongful restraint) and 323 (hurt) at around 10pm.

Police later went to the residence of Khaunte and arrested him in the case. Police said that he was arrested at around 1.50am (Thursday) and after completing all formalities and he was released at around 2.30 am.
Khaunte was released on the bail bond of Rs 5,000. Mahambrey had also filed the complaint before speaker Rajesh Patnekar. Police said that they have taken permission from speaker of the assembly to arrest Khaunte.
Mahambrey in his complaint before Porvorim police station said that he was a senior citizen, retired teacher and a social worker.
“In my capacity as the spokesperson of my party, I took part in a press conference held on Thursday at BJP office. In the said press briefing I had raised certain issues pertaining to the assets and businesses of Khaunte,” Mahambrey said.
