PANAJI: It was a money-making day for flower vendors in Panaji who gathered at the election counting centre in North Goa as early as 9am hoping to sell garlands to winning candidates. Once the names were declared, the mala that adorned their neck was worth nothing less than royalty since the otherwise affordably priced marigold garlands were going at Rs 400 per piece.

With no water being provided for those grouped outside the premises, small-time ice-cream sellers made merry overpricing their products too. Mithai is synonymous with election-related celebrations and halwai wallahs unfailingly witnessed an enthusiastic business this time as well.

As the day progressed, more names started being declared urging party workers of winning candidates to make quick stops around the city to purchase fire crackers.
