“Sometimes even DySP and PIs are unaware of their colleagues’ mental fitness,” Sawant said. “When we have a large police force, there will be some who are mentally unfit,” he said, adding that police should work to make Goa safe and secure.

Sawant launched stress management posters under the “Manas Mentors” initiative, to be displayed at all Goa police stations. NGO Sangath will circulate an electronic form to all police personnel to capture data to document and assess overall physiological health.

The “Swasth Police Sashakth Police” campaign, a year-long project, will screen 1,500 police personnel per month in North Goa. Blood pressure, random blood glucose, and Body Mass Index (BMI) will be documented, with support from the Telemedicine Society of India (Goa) and IMA Bicholim.

DGP Alok Kumar said that maintaining a positive attitude is key to a happy and stress-free life.
