Goa mourns death of prominent sports promoter Kishore Angle

Panaji: The sports fraternity in Goa was in mourning with news of the passing away of prominent sports promoter Kishore Angle.

Kishore Anna, as he was fondly known, was a mentor to several top Goan cricketers and a significant figure in the table tennis circuit who made huge contributions to sports throughout his life.

“Kishore Anna was special to me as a mentor in cricket at Panjim Gymkhana which was his heart and soul. He served cricket selflessly,” former Ranji Trophy captain Hemant Angle said in a post on social media.

Sudin Kamat, another top former cricketer, also took to social media to acknowledge Angle’s contribution.

“It was Kishore Anna who made me secretary of Panjim Gymkhana when he was the president for two terms. He was an encyclopedia of cricket and remembered dates of events dating back to the Dayanand Bandokar era. Today I have lost a mentor, a person who regularly kept in touch. Om Shanti Kishore Anna. You will be missed,” said Kamat.

Founder of Angleys Sports and former president of Panjim Gymkhana, Angle was involved in several other sports and fields, besides major contributions in cricket and table tennis.

“We fondly recount the wonderful memories we have of the Angleys Cup, one of the oldest and most prestigious table tennis tournaments, which used to be held unfailing year after year, standing as a testament to his unwavering commitment and passion for the sport,” the Goa Table Tennis Association said in a statement.

The Angleys Cup team event brought together a large number of clubs and institutions, creating an atmosphere of intense competition and excitement.
