Goa is safe for tourists as well as women: Khaunte
Panaji: As one of India’s most sought-after tourist destinations, safety and security remain at the forefront of Goa’s governance, said tourism minister Rohan Khaunte. He said that initiatives such as the 1364 tourist helpline and the Pink Force reflect the state’s commitment to providing quick assistance and security to those in need, particularly women.
“Safety is at the heart of our tourism strategy. With a strong policing network, rapid response units and technology-driven initiatives, Goa continues to set a benchmark in ensuring a secure experience for all travellers,” Khaunte said.
Tourism director Kedar Naik said that women’s safety also remains a priority in Goa, particularly in areas frequented by travellers. He said constant patrolling is done at key tourist zones, public spaces and transport hubs. The patrolling unit is trained to handle emergencies and provide direct support to women in distress. “The visible presence of the Pink Force has contributed to an increased sense of security among both tourists and local women, making Goa a safer destination for solo travellers,” said Naik.
He also said the department is working on strategic infrastructure projects to enhance the tourism landscape. Naik said the introduction of the Gomant Sarita Poojan at the confluence of the Mandovi, Zuari and Valvonti in Narve will elevate Goa’s spiritual tourism appeal.
