The Goa excise department has been set a revenue collection target of Rs 253 crore for the new financial year 2013-14.

PANAJI: The Goa excise department has been set a revenue collection target of Rs 253 crore for the new financial year 2013-14.
State excise commissioner Menino D'Souza, told TOI "this year the target has been set at Rs 253 crore and we are confident we will achieve it." For the recently concluded financial year 2012-13, the target had been set at Rs 220 crore.

The department manage to collect a total of Rs 213 crore and the shortfall was around Rs 7 crore. The Excise Department is the third largest revenue earner for the government, after the mining and tourism sectors.
In the year 2011-12, the excise revenue collection was Rs 182 crore against a target of Rs 180 crore; while in 2010-11, the collection was Rs 139 crore.
