Giving raw meat to stray dogs will lead to arrest: Salkar

Vasco: As dog attacks rise across Mormugao taluka, Vasco MLA Krishna Salkar on Friday warned that people feeding raw meat to strays will be arrested.
The MLA was speaking to mediapersons after launching the works for two cross-drains in Vasco city, which are meant to mitigate floods in the monsoon.
“I have issued the necessary directions to the deputy collector and the sub-divisional magistrate of Mormugao as well as to police to act strictly against those who give raw meat to stray dogs,” Salkar said.
He said, “Often, it has been observed that stray dogs are hungry and search for food. They are ready to eat anything.” He added, “However, once the strays become used to getting raw meat, they might become aggressive if their cravings are not satisfied.”
Salkar said in such situations, the strays might attack humans. He cited the case of a woman at Maimollem in Vasco who was attacked by strays a couple of days ago.
“We can save people from dog bites by not offering raw meat to the dogs,” Salkar said.
