Association has told a district court they will not go ahead with the Special General Body meeting on Sunday that was called to decide on the expulsion of Sarvodaya Sporting and other officials, including its president
Vilas Desai
whose complaint led to the arrest of three top officials.
Vilas, whose complaint into the Rs 3.13 crore alleged fraud led to the arrest of
GCA
president
Chetan Desai, secretary
Vinod Phadke
and treasurer Akbar Mulla, had approached the district court claiming that Sunday’s meeting called to expel him could not go ahead because he was not served notice.
“If the GCA has to expel someone, they have to appoint an arbitrator. Nobody can be summarily dismissed,” said Vilas.
The GCA managing committee had earlier this year unanimously recommended to the general body to expel four individuals and the club from the association for a period of six years for the fracas that ensued during the opening of the cricket academy in Sanguem. Apart from Vilas, Putu Rama Dessai, Vinay Gaonkar and Suhas Naik were sought to be expelled, while Sarvodaya Sporting Club also faced expulsion.
All four individuals and the club have been suspended from all activities of the association pending a decision of the general body.
“The meeting has been postponed. It has not been called off,” said GCA senior vice-president Venkatesh Prabhudesai.
“We decided it ourselves to postpone the general body meeting for some time. There is no particular reason for our decision. We will inform all the clubs about the decision,” said Prabhudesai.
