Gaundalim road to open during peak hours

Panaji: The first day of the Gaundalim road closure led to a massive traffic snarl, forcing the authorities to permit vehicles to use the Gaundalim road during peak working hours.

Cumbarjua MLA Rajesh Faldessai said that the Old Goa-Gandaulim road will now stay open for vehicles from 8am to 10am.

The stretch will be closed between 10am and 5pm for the construction of the road overbridge.

Authorities said that from 5pm to 9pm, the Old Goa-Gandaulim road will be reopened to help those travelling to Marcel, Amona, and Sanquelim. Goa State Infrastructure Development Corporation (GSIDC) initially announced the full-day closure of the Gandaulim route until the construction of the railway overbridge is completed. However, the traffic was diverted via the Banastarim bridge and the national highway, but this led to a major traffic jam on the Corlim-Old Goa stretch, forcing the authorities to rethink.

The Old Goa-Gandaulim road serves as a key connector for daily commuters hailing from Gaundalim-Marcel-Sanquelim.
