Ganeshpuri dacoity: B’desh duo remanded in 9-day custody
Mapusa: The Mapusa court on Wednesday remanded two Bangladeshi nationals, arrested in connection with the Ganeshpuri dacoity, to nine days in police custody.Police identified the accused as Raju B, 27, and Shafikul Amir, 37, both from Bengaluru. While the main culprits are yet to be arrested, police suspect that Raju and Amir assisted in the dacoity.The crime, which took place between 3am and 5am on Oct 7, involved around Rs 35 lakh in cash and valuables being looted by six armed, burqa-clad individuals. The robbers held the Ghanekar family hostage, tying them with bedsheets and saris and gagging them with pillow covers.The gang later crossed the Goa border into Belagavi, Karnataka, after abandoning the family’s stolen car under the Mandovi bridge in Panaji, possibly to mislead investigators.A police official said efforts are under way to trace and arrest the main accused, adding that the arrest of the two suspects will be crucial to the case.
