Gandaulim-Old Goa road to be shut for one year

Panaji: Taking note of the daily traffic congestion at the Old Goa railway crossing, Goa State Infrastructure Development Corporation (GSIDC) has moved to construct a road overbridge to alleviate the problem. The road from Old Goa to Gandaulim will be closed for one year from Feb 25.

The road is extensively used by vehicles to travel to Marcel, Bicholim, Sanquelim, and even Belagavi. Once completed, the overbridge is expected to significantly alleviate the long queues that commuters currently face during train crossings.

Vehicles will be diverted via the Banastarim route or Corlim industrial estate, said GSIDC officials.

The stretch that has been shut is from the Fisherman Training Centre in Ella, Old Goa, to the Dempo Football Ground. GSIDC officials expect the road closure to remain in force for at least 11 months.
