Former DIG lambasts dept over promotion of deputy SPs
Panaji: Former deputy inspector general of police (DIG) Bosco George hit out at the police department over the promotion of 19 deputy superintendents of police (DySPs) to the rank of superintendent of police (SP) terming it “no difference between Gadha aur Ghoda”.
“Congratulations to the promoted officers, but all this is a real drama. Promoting 19 personnel at a time is no different between Gadha aur Godha (donkey & horse). It is really degrading the sanctity of the post and a cause for frustration to the IRBn officers whose vacancies were snatched to accommodate these officers. This is going to breed subservience and servility, and bid goodbye to professionalism,” George said.
State on Friday promoted 19 DySPs to the post of SPs. The promoted DySPs include Shaikh Salim, Wilson D’ Souza, Francisco Corte, Roy Pereira, Nolasco Raposo, Braz Menezes, Nutun Verenker, Gurudas Kadam, Siddhant Shirodkar, Jivba Dalvi, Rajan Nigalye, Rajendra P Dessai, Nerlon Albuquerque, Ashish Shirodkar, Pravinkumar Vast, Sagar Ekoskar, Rajesh Kumar, Tushar Vernekar and Viswesh Karpe.
To promote DySPs to SPs, relaxations were given in service rules. With the promotion of DySPs, a senior police officer said the department will soon start the process to fill the vacant DySP posts. Similarly, Goa police will start the process to recruit direct DySPs to fill the vacancies.
In Aug 2023, state govt promoted 27 police inspectors (PIs) to the level of DySP. Earlier, these PIs functioned as acting DySPs.
State govt diverted 10 direct-recruitment DySP posts to accommodate these personnel.
