Ferry ops shift to widen ramp for Ribandar-Chorao
Panaji: To accommodate the new Ro-Ro ferries, the existing Ribandar first ferry ramp requires an expansion from its current 9m width to 26m. This extension involves an additional 17m, enabling the efficient operation of the new ferries.
Work on the ramp has commenced, and to ensure timely completion and to maintain the highest quality standards, all ferry operations will be temporarily shifted to the secondary Ribandar ramp.
“Operating ferries near the construction site could compromise safety, impede construction progress, and affect the quality of the finished ramp. A temporary shift is necessary to ensure the smooth execution of the project,” said Imagine Panaji Smart City Development Limited (IPSCDL).
The IPSCDL, in collaboration with the Captain of Ports (CoP) and the river navigation department (RND), is undertaking the widening of the Ribandar ferry ramp. A temporary shift of ferry operations for the Ribandar-Chorao route has therefore been announced to avoid inconveniences and simultaneously expedite works.
This project initiative is designed to introduce advanced Ro-Ro ferry services on the Ribandar-Chorao route, replacing older ferry boats with modern, technologically advanced vessels.
Ferry operations on the Ribandar-Chorao route will be relocated to the secondary Ribandar ramp from Jan 24 to Feb 15. “We appreciate the public’s understanding and support as we work to improve Ribandar-Chorao waterway infrastructure,” said an official of IPSCDL.
