Expert team to study Karnataka’s DPR

Panaji: The state government on Thursday constituted a ‘study group’ headed by chief engineer of Water Resources department, Pramod Badami, for ‘critical detailed examination’ of the detailed project report (DPR) of Karnataka, which was approved by the central water commission for the Kalasa Bhandura projects.

In the order issued on Thursday, WRD said the study group will “discuss and deliberate” the findings, “issues flagged by the members” and apprise the chairman. The report is to be submitted by April 30.

The 12-member committee consists of a retired CWC member Chetan Pandit, Prof K G Gupta, Purnanand Sawaikar, Wilma Fernandes and Akshay Nigale (all four from Goa Engineering College, Farmagudi), Nandkumar Kamat (retired professor from Goa University), engineers from WRD, among others.

Karnataka’s DPR for diversion of water from the Mhadei was received with protests from Goa.
