Panaji: The Goan Welfare Association Qatar will commemorate the 25th anniversary of World Goa Day on Nov 22 in Doha. The event will showcase Goan art, culture, tradition, language, music, and costumes.
“The World Goa Day celebration is perhaps the only global Goan event that reminds us of our identity as Goans,” said association president Simon D'Silva.
“World Goa Day has now become a signature event worldwide and appears in the calendar of events of every major Goan association worldwide,” he added.
“The event is intended as a day for Goans worldwide to focus, take pride, and celebrate our culture, language, traditions, music, cuisine, and more, wherever they are in the world,” he said.
Since its inception, the association has been instrumental in preserving Goan culture and spirit among expatriates. “It is an opportunity for everyone to dive into the state’s traditional roots and culture,” D'Silva said. World Goa Day commemorates the inclusion of Konkani in the 8th Schedule of the Indian Constitution on Aug 20, 1992. The event will showcase Goa's cultural diversity, followed by a fusion of traditional and contemporary performances.
